The Desert, Mountain, River & Sky
One of the last untouched, unique landscapes in North America is the Big Bend; a majestic mountain range crowned with beautiful skies and cultivated by the Rio Grande River, its life-giving blood. The Big Bend of Texas unites the arid desert with dramatic mountain ranges, scenic mesas, and stunning river canyons unlike any other place in America.
The Big Bend is not an easy land to navigate, but greatly rewards those willing to explore it. Its location is set within the vast Chihuahuan Desert, extending from Central Mexico to Southern New Mexico, and includes 1,200 species of plants, 450 species of birds, 56 species of reptiles, and 75 species of mammals.
The Chisos Mountains are a stunning backdrop to the Big Bend with their jagged peaks and remarkable views. It is the only mountain range totally contained within a single national park, and offers breathtaking views for those atop their peaks. Numerous trails through the Chisos Mountains offer excellent opportunities for hiking and horseback riding.
The Rio Grande River is the dominant feature of Big Bend National Park, the course of which runs from the Gulf of Mexico. Its life sustaining waters nourish the flora and fauna native to the area, and serve as a means for recreation for guests to the area, such as rafting, fishing, and swimming.
The painted sky surrounding the Big Bend stretches across the magnificent terrain like an indigo canvas. Pastel hued morning skies are spotted with hawks and falcons, and complimented by magnificent evening sunsets. As the sun disappears below the horizon, a magnificent star filled sky reveals the awe inspiring Milky Way and the vastness of the universe.
No other location in the world unites the magnificent natural wonders of the desert, mountains, river, and sky like the Big Bend. It is a destination that is unparalleled with any other, and can be seen, felt and experienced through the mind, body and spirit.
